Teaching your child how to read can seem difficult and far-fetched when we focus on the end in the beginning. Just like with anything in a child’s life, children go through milestones. When a child reaches a milestone nine out of ten it will click. This is the first tip to keep in mind when teaching your child how to read.
Benchmark: Most parents set goals for their children that we want to see happens before a particular time. Usually, it’s because we care about the benchmark. Is this a bad thing? No, it’s not. My suggestion to you is not to focus so much on your child meeting certain standards, that you lose sight of the development signs that determine reading readiness.
What role do parents play in children reading:

There are things that we naturally do as parents that we sometimes don’t realize is preparing your child for reading. Tip#2 Reading to your unborn child, infant, or toddler consistently every day also will help your child. These special moments are also the start of reading readiness.
Tip#3 Having your child listen to the alphabet and phonics songs will benefit your child later in understanding why the alphabet exists, and how words are formed This will also help in building Phonemic Awareness skills.

Consistency is key to teaching your child how to read

Most of what your child learns in the early stages of development is through memory. Until they reach the development milestone of letter recognition, continue reading, playing phonic songs, and singing. Be consistent in reading aloud, to Improve Reading Fluency and so reading will become a joy for him/ her.

Alphabet and Shapes

Teaching your child how to identify shapes is also important in teaching your child how to read. Allow your child to play with shapes and show them how shapes can be found in the letters of the alphabet. Every letter in the alphabet has a sound. Help your child to realize letter sound through phonics songs. I would like to share my favorite phonic song, copy and paste it into URLhttps://youtu.be/BELlZKpi1Zs. Recognizing the sound of each letter is very crucial in teaching a child how to read. You can play this song for your child every day at home or in the car. Children learn through repetition, so don’t worry your child will not be at a disadvantage if you play it often. I hope these few tips help you in preparing/teaching your child how to read.
