Hello! Have you ever, during your parenting make this statement, “my child is not interested in anything”? I remember having this thought in my early years of parenting, until I realize that that wasn’t only the case. I realized that my child was not interested because he was not being challenged enough. I also realized there were times that my child was not interested because the task or project was too challenging. As parents we have to observe in what category our children fall under, (under challenged or over). This is not always easy to figure out right away, but as we keep these questions in the back of our mind, we pay closer attention to our children when they are engaged in play. So what do we look for as parents? Pay attention to the length of time your child stay at one choice, and if they complete the choice you provide in its entirety. if the choice is completed really fast and you know it should take “some” time, then you may want to challenge your child more. if the choice you provide is of interest, but they are having hard time doing it on their own, then it may be a little too challenging. This approach will be different if your child/children is an infant or toddler, because their attention span is much shorter and that is expected. I hope today you be encouraged in parenting and continue to challenge your children to their fullest potential. Don’t hesitate to share your experiences as well.
